5 Tips On How We Keep Our Marriage Strong:
1. Support Each other
This is soooo important and something we strive to do for each other. When I was pregnant with Brynleigh Darek started his MBA at University of Chicago (downtown Chicago, about 3 hours away from Indy) and he had classes every Saturday. I wasn’t thrilled but knew it was important for him because it was one of the top 3 business schools in the country and it was something he felt like he needed to do for our family and his career. So I supported him, simple as that! Looking back it was one of the best things we ever did. Now with my schedule getting busier with work and traveling he is my biggest supporter. He helps in every way, whether it’s taking my photos, helping me with SEO for the blog or helping me negotiate campaign deals, he does it all! I’m so thankful for him everyday!
2. Keep it fun!
This is so important. With two busy careers and raising two young children, it’s easy for us to get stressed out! We try to find fun in the little things and always laugh and joke around. Keep it light! Darek is definitely better at this than I am, LOL. I get stressed out easily and he helps to lighten the mood and help me realize a lot of what is stressing me out isn’t a big deal.
3. Date your spouse
THIS!!! This is something that has helped us keep a spark and reminds you what it was like when it was just the two of you. We love to go on dates and spend time one on one with each other. We try to do this at least one time a week. The date doesn’t have to be anything extravagant, grabbing a quick lunch at Panera or watching movie with popcorn on the couch after the kids are in bed…it’s the little things!
4. Say “I love you” everyday
I am a words of affirmation person and I absolutely LOVE to hear this, LOL. I’m lucky because Darek has always been a pretty romantic guy. One time when we were dating in college, he sent 2 dozen roses to me 4 different times throughout the day at different locations and wrote me the sweetest notes(at home, work, in my car) it was so sweet! He’s always been great at telling me he loves me and writing cards, which I LOVE.
5. Be Friends!
At the end of the day, Darek is my best friend. I think that’s so important in a marriage. You have to care about the person on a friend-level as well as in a romantic way. We love each other and we want the best for each other. We love to spend time together doing simple things and we still laugh and try to be silly as much as we can.
So now that I’ve shared a little insight into our marriage- let’s get back to fashion, LOL. I wanted to talk a little bit about our outfits in this post! The Nordstrom Anniversary Sale ends Sunday night at midnight PST but there’s still plenty of time to snag some last-minute amazing deals! I think it’s pretty obvious that Nordstrom is one of my favorite places to shop but you might not know that Darek has always been just as big of a fan of Nordstrom as I have. They have an amazing Mens Department and carry everything from Men’s suits to casual wear to designer pieces. So I wanted to share some of HIS favorite NSale pieces with you guys.
I picked up several things for him when I was in the store last week from the Sale including this amazing leather jacket! A quality leather jacket is a staple piece in everyone’s closet- whether you’re a guy or a girl. It’s just a classic piece. A good quality leather jacket isn’t cheap so the sale is a perfect time to take advantage of the good deals and invest in a piece like this! I know he will wear this one for years and it was on sale so we didn’t mind investing the money. This henley tee is another one of Darek’s favorite pieces- and mine! I love when he wears henleys and this one has such a great fit! Lastly, these grey jeans are a must. Darek needed some new jeans so I was happy to see that there were some great styles included in the NSale! I’m linking all of our outfit details from the Anniversary Sale below! XO
